Het korte antwoord: niet gemakkelijk. In tegenstelling tot traditionele metalen of kunststoffen is deze geavanceerde koolstofvezel composietbuis bestand tegen extreme temperaturen met een opmerkelijke stabiliteit. Koolstofatomen binden zich in een strak, kristallijn rooster en vormen strengen dunner dan een mensenhaar. Duizenden van deze strengen worden tot linten gedraaid die later in epoxy worden gezet, waardoor de koolstofvezelcomposietbuis ontstaat die we vandaag de dag gebruiken.<\/p><p data-start=\"1613\" data-end=\"1956\">In tegenstelling tot metalen die warmte snel geleiden, vertraagt de structuur van koolstofvezel de warmteoverdracht. Zelfs als het in direct contact komt met vlammen, verschroeit het oppervlak terwijl de binnenkant koel blijft. De hars kan verschroeien, maar het skelet van de koolstofvezel blijft stevig.
